TRANSPORTING ROSES
When transporting roses from the store to your house, keep them out of direct sunlight and heat, and try to pick them up on your last stop before going home, especially in South African summers.
VASE PREPARATION
Clean the vase with soap and hot water.
This will kill any bacteria that might contaminate the water.

FLOWER FOOD
Mix flower food with water (1 sachet on 1lt water). Pro tip: if you don’t have flower food, mix one teaspoon bleach (disinfectant), 2 teaspoons sugar (food), and 1 teaspoon vinegar (acidifier) in 1 lt of water.
CUTTING
Cut 2cm off of each stem. This will allow the water to contact fresh plant material for optimal water uptake. Strip leaves to above intended water level. Immediately place the roses in the water + flower food solution. Pro tip: cut the stems at an angle to increase stem tip-to-water contact.
SUNLIGHT & HEAT
Keep roses out of direct sunlight, drafts, and heat sources. Pro tip: keep flowers away from ethylene-producing fruit such as bananas, melons, avocados, and papaya.
FRESH WATER
Replace the water with clean water and flower food every two days.
